Former Hurricanes great Warren Sapp walked onto Greentree Field on Friday morning a few minutes after the Canes began their drills.

He said he had never met coach Al Golden, whom he publicly criticized months earlier for not making an effort to meet Sapp when the former defensive tackle visited on Pro Day.

Sapp also sent out mean-spirited tweets when UM hired Golden in December.

A few moments after Sapp reached the field and stood on the sideline, however, Golden saw Sapp and the two bear-hugged with gusto — the slapping of backs heard yards away.

It was a Canes’ lovefest, with Sapp seeming to have changed his opinion of UM’s new coach.

Sapp sparked the Hurricanes with a pep talk before the heart of the practice session got underway.

Al Golden is a NO-NONSENSE guy. He is taking his philly attitude and brought it to Miami. His mentality is if your not tough enough mentally or physically then get off his team. Jacory Harris is battling Stephen Morris for the starting quarterback job. Jacory has was better in spring ball but now its fall and there is only 3 weeks to be ready for Maryland. The Hurricanes seemed to be solidified on Defense with 1 preseason ALL AMERICAN SS Ray-ray Armstrong and 1 Offense T Brandon Washington. They also have Sean Spence and Tyler Horn who are 2 all Atlantic Coast Conference 1st team. This is a team that is returning some pretty good names also at WR is Travis Benjamin who is lightning on the field. Even though the Florida State Seminoles are heavily favored to win the A.C.C. never count those Miami Hurricanes out.

Finally the Miami Hurricanes stepped on the practice field. Feels like there has been alot of changes since spring ball. There is Storm Johnson who transferred to University of Central Florida. There are some big shoes to fill in and many names we want to step up and make a big name for there team and themselves this year.

The ACC is going into this upcoming season with the least known group of QBs of all the major conferences in a long time. EJ Manuel, from Florida State University, and Jacory Harris, from University of Miami, might be the two most well recognized names in the group. Russell Wilson would have been the shining star of the group coming into the season, but he transferred from NC State to Wisconsin this summer. While Manuel has the starting QB position on lock at FSU Harris is going into the Fall with a battle on his hands.

Harris will be going head to head with Stephen Morris, who came in last season and had some very
impressive games while Harris was injured. Each one has their own strengths, but it should come down
to who has less weaknesses. With a new head coach in place this season it really gives both players an
even playing field to grab the starting spot. Both guys were able to win games under center and this
might be a battle that isn’t settled until part way through the season. Harris and Morris both need to
bring their “A” game from the start and impress everyone from Coach Golden to the rest of the players
on offense.

If the Hurricanes can figure out their QB situation early on in the season they should be in good shape
to make another run at an ACC Championship. The defense always plays at a very high level, so to make
this really click the offense is going to need to do its part and that starts with the QB.

What a great way to kick off the season!!!

Who is going to be the better quarterback in this matchup? Despite the Terrelle Pryor hype train, Jacory Harris has been steadily improving and I’m anxious to see how he does against an A level team like Ohio State.

I think the latest odds are +8 1/2 in Columbus, just a sick game.

Will Miami be able to stop the big 10 running attack of Wiscy? Not sure actually. However, I think we can outscore them in this game.

What a way to start off the season with a dramatic victory on the road against a much improved FSU team.

The team looks put together. Unfortunately, the Seminoles have finally gotten their crap together as well.

Noles up 7 right now in the 4th with Canes driving.

The Canes went down to The Swamp and came out not winning. It was expected, but we wanted to see how the team looked.

I’ll tell you what, it looked a lot better than expected. Yes there were some special teams problems. However, the defense looked like there is some potential there.

As far as the offense goes, I wasn’t impressed. However, Marve had some flashes of brilliance, but they were far an few between. Hopefully, Marve can shine a little longer next time.
