Under Center Mystery

August 15th, 2008 @ 7:06:48 PM

As the Canes are just about two weeks away from their season opener against Charleston Southern, there is still a huge question on the table for coach Randy Shannon. Who will be the lead man for the Canes this season?

The Hurricanes have a talented pool of QBs this season (Robert Marve - RS Freshman,  Jacory Harris - Freshman, and Cannon Smith - Freshman)  but the only problem is a severe lack of experience. For that reason, I believe that Coach Shannon will take the Charleston Southern game as almost a tryout. To see who comes up big.

Robert Marve is the early front runner because of the year he has under his belt on campus, last year being a red shirt, but I think that Harris is the best athlete out of the trio, and will eventually prevail as an elite ACC quarterback. He threw for just short of 3000 yards in his senior year, and ran a 4.62 40 at the combine. He has the possibility of being a deadly double threat, and might just be too good to sit on the bench, even in his freshman season.

Cannon Smith, on the other hand,  is the weakest quarterback of the three, and threw for 5  TD’s and 4 INT’s in his Senior year of High School. Without the double threat that Harris possesses, it looks like Smith will just lose out to a pair of more talented QB’s.

If the rumors of Coach Shannon platooning the QB position between two players this season are true, I think the obvious choices have to be Marve and Harris. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how these two can perform on Saturday, when the pressure is on.

Canes Baseball Team Ready For NCAA Tournament

May 26th, 2008 @ 2:25:51 PM

“The University of Miami has earned the No. 1 national seed for the 64-team NCAA baseball tournament that begins Friday at 16 regional sites, the NCAA Division I baseball committee announced Monday.

This marks the first time since 1999 that UM has been the top seed. That year the Hurricanes went on to win their third national title. They won the College World Series again in 2001. UM also won national titles in 1982 and 1985.”

Coach Randy Shannon Plays No Games

July 24th, 2007 @ 6:27:36 AM

“Before, if you messed up, you were just going to run,” guard Derrick Morse said. “Some guys can run until the cows come home.

“Now, you’re not going to run, you’re just going to move down the depth chart. I think a lot of guys are maturing because of this. Hopefully, it won’t be an issue anymore.”

It’s part of Shannon’s plan, one that includes removing the names from the backs of game jerseys, to help restore a program that has competed below the standards expected at the University of Miami the past two years. It included a disappointing 9-3 finish in 2005 and an embarrassing 7-6 season last year that featured losses to Georgia Tech, Maryland and Virginia. There also was the brawl against Florida International and the shooting death of defensive lineman Bryan Pata that shed negative light once again on the Hurricanes.

Miami should move up with Alabama loss

November 12th, 2005 @ 6:49:27 PM

Told everyone LSU will beat Alabama. They have a good defense but offensively they were so overrated. 16-13 final Miami will move up.

Mike Dodd is getting Destroyed

November 8th, 2005 @ 12:40:48 AM

This man who wrote articles about the Hurricanes being surpassed program by Virginia Tech, lets just say the amount of negative emails are coming rapid. He has admitted he should of never wrote it and bottom line is bad press is good press if you can stir up the public it worked. So he took a shot saying Miami was washed up and surpassed and that this would be the dagger forever. Now he is taking the brunt of it daily. He has responded to as many posts without cursing in them and has admitted that this team now has a chance if Texas or USC lose to play for a National Championship. His team to win it all was Virginia Tech now he is on an ORANGE AND GREEN BANDWAGON.

Moss out for the Season

November 8th, 2005 @ 12:29:49 AM

Miami running back Tyrone Moss will miss the rest of the season to torn left knee ligaments. His replacement was Charlie Jones who had 24 carries 97 yards and a Touchdown. I expect big things from this young man to fill the void.

Viginia Tech Better Program ……

November 7th, 2005 @ 3:57:39 PM

All canes are happy this week. We put the Hokies back where they belong. I heard they had a bunch of recruits at the game too…HAHA…Thanks for the recruiting factor, Beamer…we could use some of those guys. Virginia Tech will never take the place of Miami Hurricanes.

3rd Quarter Canes 27 Hokies 0

November 5th, 2005 @ 9:45:46 PM

What sweet revenge this game is so far. Third quarter and the Miami Hurricanes are up 27 over the Virgina Hokies. Looks like total domination. I don’t want to count my eggs before they hatch, but this is looking like total domination in Blacksburg. Its about time too.

Maybe Hurricane Wilma brought the green, orange, and white some poise and execution to the Miami Hurricanes with some friggn strength this time around.

Can you tell I’m pumped?

Game of the Year…………

November 4th, 2005 @ 5:10:47 PM

Virginia Tech has been getting hyped all week from the media about being a better program than University of Miami. Frankly I have had enough of this garbage. MIAMI 5 RINGS VIRGINIA TECH 0RINGS. Please enough with the comparisons. Miami must get the ball to its talent , Sinorice Moss and Tyrone Moss. If they move the ball down the field expect an upset. Also expect a Miami freshman or sophmore to make a big play on defense that will shift momentum. Marcus Vick has yet to face a defense like Miami.
